The Sauk River
The Sauk River, the largest tributary to the Skagit River, is a national treasure.
It gained federal protection, thanks to an act of Congress, by being designated a Wild & Scenic River. The Sauk river valley has a long history, both in mining and in
timber. In its hey-day, the thriving town of Monte Cristo was home to thousands

Driving Directions: From I-5 take the Arlington exit (#208) onto Highway 530.
Follow 530 East 3.3 miles to the town of Arlington, in Arlington follow signs to
Darrington on the North Cascade Scenic Loop Highway (530), and continue
30 miles to the town of Darrington. Our meet spot is at the gravel parking lot
adjacent to the Darrington IGA grocery store located on Highway 530.
